A Citizen's Duty Towards the News
Toni Locy spoke to Dr. Cox's "America and the Enlightenment" classes this week.
One of the many things Professor Locy is known for is her passion and determination towards the first ammendment. Locy was held in contempt of court in the 2008 Anthrax Case for these very traits.
As well as pointing out the reporting of the news that most disappoints her, Locy advises the reader in their approach towards the news. These are questions she poses.
Are we trying to expand our knowledge?
Are we willing to accept that we don’t know it all?
Are we willing to change our minds?
Are we looking for proof of how things are? Or how we wish they would be?
Are we willing to open our minds instead of closing them?
In closing and in response to the issue of the “dying of print”, Locy responds
“I think its going to be better than it ever was and your generation is going to make sure it is.”
